TECHNOLOGY, HISTORY AND STYLES

HISTORY

Seiko 5 Sports uses no electricity at all. The watches are powered solely by their spring. The intricate mechanisms which achieve that feat are the fruits of the technical skills nurtured by Seiko during the brand’s 130-year history. The rugged functional design also incorporates the passion of all the people who have been involved in its development during the 50 years since Seiko 5 Sports first came into being.

TECHNOLOGY

The Seiko Sportsmatic 5 (nicknamed Seiko 5) was released in 1963, the first self-winding model manufactured in Japan. It was named Seiko 5 as it featured self-winding, the day-date display in the 3 o’ clock position, water-resistance, the crown in the 4 o’ clock position and a rugged case design. In 1968, Seiko 5 Sports was created as a more upscale model, targeting young people with more active lifestyles and was marketed as a sports watch with robust features. Picking up from its glorious history, Seiko 5 Sports is officially reborn to set a whole new trend in style.
